Too Long, But Not Forgotten

Well, looks like my last post was WAY back in February :\...This is an obvious sign that I'm really bad at uploading things I'm working on/have worked on. But at least it's getting done today! I'll break them up into several posts since there is more of a theme/story to each one.

The first of my posts is a tattoo design I did for my friend. She had requested a "Rosie the Riveter" + "Star Wars" inspired piece. And the following is the result (being the female pin-up jedi in the center).

I started with the reference image I was given from my friend. She liked the style of the piece and the 50's pin-up aspect of the drawing. From there, I re-imaged the picture, having the girl holding a light saber using more of my art style.

I then proceeded to add the tattoo sleeve. The sleeve consists of things my friend likes. She loves "The Little Mermaid", so I drew a "Dia de los Muertos" mermaid. I drew it bigger first to get the details I wanted in it, which I could then place into the arm in Photoshop. I also added Yoda and the Death Star for fun little Easter eggs. There are also basic American traditional designs in the arm too.

Whether she gets it or not is up to her, but I was happy with the results and so was she.

The Latest #MCM

Here's the latest from my series "#mcm and #wcw" lol

My friend asked me for her dream man, and created a list of 11 qualities she wanted in the "perfect man". From that list, I created this guy:
It's fun to make someone's day and envision what I think they would like from just some words written down. Definitely hit me up if you'd like one or two haha

Tattoo Concept

I've only drawn a couple of tattoo designs for people. I'm really proud of this one. It's for my friend who wanted feminine theater masks to portray good and bad luck.

Are you a #MCM or a #WCW?

Are you in need of a man crush monday or woman crush wednesday? Can't find that one person to fit the bill? Well everyone has their dream person in mind, and for some of my friends, I drew them haha

Random Doodles 2013-2014

It's been awhile ( a LONG while...) since I last posted anything related to art. I had been focusing on my fashion blog (duds4dudes.tumblr.com) since I had challenged myself to post everything I wore for the entire year of 2013. Go check it out to see where I find good deals on trendy clothes and how to style them.

ANYWAYS, even though I haven't posted anything, doesn't mean I haven't been drawing... I finally have some time to scan some of my latest drawings in so here are some of the things from my sketchbook from the end of last year and the beginning of this one :)

These 2 drawings are self portraits of myself. I had hair extensions put in and so before that happened, I drew what I thought I would look like. Then I drew myself in other hairstyles that I would like to try out.

These 2 are some celebrity drawings, with the exception of the topless girl.

This was my attempt to draw some "new school" type chibi people. I used to draw a lot of anime, so I guess this is in a way going back to my roots.

Tis the season, with these seasonal drawings.

 Random people, random events...

As you can probably tell, I love to draw faces. I don't know why, but I always start drawing an eye or a head, and then I just stop just right after the face/neck is done. But I definitely need to practice more on hands and feet.

I hope you like/enjoy these...check out more random work doodles on my instagram: @ronnieboyjr

My work with the NorCal PCA

This past month, I have worked alongside the Northern California Peace Corps Association (NorCal PCA) on creating promotional media for their upcoming benefit concert titled, "Support Girls, Support the World". Proceeds from this concert with benefit not only the NorCal PCA, but also the Bay Area Girl's Rock Camp. It's all about teaching girls empowerment through music. You can learn more about this event by clicking the link below:

As for my input in this project, I came up with 2 designs. One was just plain text while the other was a 60s rock inspired poster. The team decided the rock poster fit the bill more. In the end, one poster became a poster, a flyer, as well as postcards with 3 color variations. Here's what I came up with:

My First Creative Allies Contest was a SUCCESS!!!

Four months ago, my sister had told me about this website called "Creative Allies", where artists come together to create art for different bands ranging from posters to merch and so on and so forth. As I scrolled through the different contest, my eye was drawn to the artist "Olly Murs". I had heard his music before and decided to see what the contest was all about.

After reading the rules, I set out to make my poster. The contest was to create a mid-20th century movie style poster to promote the US release of Olly's CD, "Right Place, Right Time". We could reference songs, his dapper style, as long as it followed the guidelines. After sometime, I submitted what I thought was a simple yet concise design, hoping for the best.

About a week later, I received an email telling me my work had been selected as one of the Editor's Picks. I was so excited, since this was my first experience ever entering an art contest! It reassured me of my style and my abilities. Unfortunately, I didn't win the contest. But although I didn't win the big prize, I did win a personal goal.

You can check out my poster, along with the winning design at the link below:
